smallville

Dibandingkan serial lain seperti Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson’s Creek, Felicity, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, Roswell, Tru Calling, atau lainnya; saya cenderung menyarankan Smallville sebagai serial tontonan remaja yang cukup bagus. Smallville sudah memasuki season keenam dan mungkin akan beredar di Indonesia tahun depan.

Smallville tak beda dengan Superman “kecil” yang dimodernkan ke masa kini; lengkap dengan ayah, ibu, Lana, Lex, dan tokoh lainnya. Smallville menceritakan kehidupan masa muda Clark Kent ketika beranjak dewasa. Smallville memang bukan Superman, juga bukan Superboy. Sebaliknya, Clark justru sering dibenturkan dengan persoalan aktual yang lebih realistis, seperti pertemanan, cinta remaja, keluarga, konflik, dan hal-hal humanis lainnya.

Ide Superman muda memang bukan hal baru. Kalau Anda ingat, di komik-komik perdananya pernah diperkenalkan “The Adventures of Superman When He Was A Boy!” Namun tidak benar-benar mirip dengan Smallville. Clark yang sekarang tak lagi culun dan berkacamata tebal. Ia sudah mengenal komputer dan internet, menggemari Nirvana, dan update dengan perkembangan jaman.

Ada beberapa hal yang menarik di sini. Misalnya, di Smallville kita bisa belajar soal peran orangtua dalam mengarahkan anaknya. Great parents who taught right from wrong. Clark sadar di usia yang masih labil dirinya punya kekuatan hebat dan menghadapi kebingungan untuk memilih antara being good or evil. Tanpa Jonathan dan Martha yang mengajarkan nilai-nilai kebaikan dan kebenaran, Clark bisa jadi sama bejatnya dengan Lex dan menggunakan kekuatannya untuk hal yang negatif.

Yang juga menarik untuk disimak, siapa sangka kalau di masa mudanya ternyata Clark dan Lex adalah teman dekat. Saya jadi teringat bersabda Rasulullah agar kita seyogyanya jangan terlalu suka atau terlalu benci terhadap orang lain secara kebablasan. Bisa jadi orang yang kita benci suatu saat jadi teman kita, atau sebaliknya orang yang kita sukai justru berubah jadi musuh kita.

Dan yang juga tak bisa kita abaikan adalah kerendahan hati Clark yang tulus. Ketika beraksi melawan bad guy, sedapat mungkin ia berusaha agar tak terlihat orang lain. Clark bahkan menanggalkan kostum merah-biru yang khas itu. Ia bisa menyembunyikan kekuatan besarnya dengan penampilan dan sikap yang biasa-biasa saja. Clark bahkan menolak membeberkan soal kekuatannya ke Lana — yang musti dibayar dengan hubungan mereka yang kemudian merenggang.

Harus diakui bahwa tiap orang punya kelebihan yang unik dan spesifik; yang cenderung mendorong mereka untuk merasa sombong dan pamer kepada orang lain. Manajer cenderung menekan dan tak mau tahu pada bawahannya. Dosen by it’s nature selalu merasa lebih pandai dari mahasiswanya. Pejabat cenderung merasa berkuasa terhadap rakyat yang dipimpinnya. Dan bahkan kita sendiri tak sadar sering merasa tinggi hati ke orang di sekitar kita yang pencapaiannya belum sebaik kita.

Memang tak ada yang salah dengan menjadi orang yang cerdas, memegang kekuasaan, dan punya segudang kelebihan. Tak ada yang salah dengan menjadi hebat. Tak ada yang salah dengan menjadi Superman. Clark sebenarnya bisa menunjukkan kekuatannya ke setiap orang, namun tak dilakukannya. Ia bisa saja membual tentang kebolehannya ke siapa pun, tapi ia memilih tutup mulut.

Harusnya kita bisa belajar dari sosok imajiner Clark Kent. Kita bisa marah, tapi lebih memilih untuk cooling down. Kita bisa menginjak bawahan kita, tapi memilih jalan persuasif yang lebih manusiawi. Kita juga bisa saja sombong dan pamer, tapi lebih suka menjadi sederhana dan apa adanya. Itulah kerendahan hati.

Jujur saja, penulis cerita ini mungkin bukan orang timur atau seorang muslim, tapi sungguh, nilai-nilai dalam serial ini kental dengan adab ketimuran dan nilai islami yang unggul. Sayangnya, yang di sini malah membuat cerita yang tak sesuai dengan budaya dan agamanya sendiri.
